Sunshine State Digital Network (SSDN) Reparative Description Workshop

Date & Time: Wednesday, May 10th, 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Location: Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center, 555 W. Pensacola Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32306-1640 
Registration and Cost: Included with conference registration

Description: Join us for a three-hour workshop session to help prepare your team for conscious and reparative description work. There will be a brief introduction followed by time to examine your own collections descriptions, then a guided group discussions. The group will discuss workflows, opportunities, challenges, and priorities for your projects and you will be connected with other professionals doing similar work. Attendees should come prepared to actively participate and we encourage multiple registrants from each organization. Please bring a laptop computer with you to the workshop. If you do not have a laptop, please let the organizer know ahead of time.

  • Harmful language and content statements
  • Language justice
  • Anti-oppressive/anti-racist metadata
  • Person-first language
  • Other considerations
  • Schemas
  • Content Formats
  • Non-English language material

Directions and parking: The Turnbull Center is an 8 minute walk (less than half a mile) from the hotel. Parking is available at the St. Augustine Parking Garage located adjacent to the Conference Center from Wednesday, May 11, 8AM - 5PM. The direct entrance to the Conference Center is located on the fourth floor of the parking garage. Please contact the planning committee with any accessibility needs or accommodations.
